Childline Gauteng

Provision

Childline Gauteng was established in 1987 in response to high rates of child abuse. Since then it has expanded its services to include human rights violations affecting children, women and families.

Dikeledi-Thokozile Foundation

Prevention

This foundation assists in taking women between 19 and 30 back to school so that they can complete their eduation. They also work with teenagers in a programme called "Young Woman You Are Worthy". Through this initiative, they teach women about relationships.

Epic Foundation

Provision

This foundation distributes essential toiletry items for rape survivors, to be used during the initial reporting phases. They also facilitate counselling, support groups, referrals for legal advice and court preparations, self-defense classes, motivational talks, education and awareness campaigns, and skills development for shelter ladies.

Faith & Hope Foundation

Provision

The Faith & Hope Foundation helps the local community by providing necessities such as sanitary products, food, clothes, etc. The organisation also drives community development through the implementation of a range of education and leadership programmes.

Home of Hope

Prevention

Home of Hope empowers women and the local youth through various projects. Their aim is to promote entrepreneurial skills and support community groups through counselling, interactive sessions, reading and writing, sport, and more.

Lawyers against Abuse (LvA)

Prevention

This group provides free legal services and psychosocial support to victims of gender-based violence. They work with state actors and have various community engagement projects to raise awareness of legal rights and remedies. They also provide legal advice via phone or email and make referrals counselling and therapy services.

Lesedi la Batho

Provision

Lesedi la Batho offers three projects for vulnerable groups. These projects respectively offer emotional and practical support for current or former commercial sex workers; encourages and supports young mothers to stay in school; and work directly with teenage mothers, LGBTI community members, commercial sex workers and learners, to break the cycle of poverty.

TEARS Foundation

Provision

This foundation specialises in the development of a nationally-accessible assistance and support network for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. They provide 24-hour access to information about where to find medical, legal and psychological support for victims of rape and sexual abuse, free of charge. They also seeks to create awareness and facilitate the transformation of attitudes and values, so that sexual abuse of any kind becomes unacceptable in our society.

The Angel Network

The Angel Network is a voluntary organisation, run solely using the power of social media, with the goal to creating a ‘gateway for giving’. The platform is easily accessible to anyone who wants to join, and who wants to do a little more, and give a little more.

The Character Company

Prevention

This company primarily works with boys with absent fathers. They offer weekly activities, but also follow a long-term mentorship approach. In addition, they aim to provide a support structure for single mothers, and advocate the better treatment of women and children.

The Viva Foundation of South Africa

Prevention

This foundation launched a sexual violence prevention and response programme, and they have developed several awareness and victim-empowerment materials. They also facilitate a project whereby panic buttons are distributed in the community, combined with trained community response to vulnerable households.

Uitkoms Home for Girls

Uitkoms Home for Girls is a registered Child and Youth Care Centre that has the precious undertaking of offering shelter, protection, professional counselling, and life guidance to teenage girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. Uitkoms offers intensive, holistic, specialised care that caters for physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs. Through the implementation of structured life skills and educational programmes, we equip these girls with the tools they need for a successful re-integration into their communities, and broader society, and, where possible, to find acceptance from their families. Our aim is to develop the girls into productive, self-sustaining citizens.
